Pug Rescue

Steven Marcus and his wife Mala spend much of their time playing with and caring for the Pugs that they own and foster for PugSavers.

Me And Otto

Short and Sweet

Emmy And here's a little song I wrote for Emmy: Emmy.mp3 5mg

Talk about sweet! Emmy is a fawn female pug that's about eight or nine years young. She was rescued from the pound in May 2001. Emmy is semi-paralyzed and is unable to walk any distance due to a lower back problem or injury that resulted in hind legs too weak to support her and incontinence. But, as you can see in the video, she's a real trooper trying to balance and walk and you just have to cheer for her.

With the assistance of her "chariot" Emmy is enthusiastic about walks and is able to quickly maneuver around open areas. Also, a great bit of news: Emmy' s ability to walk on her own grows daily. She is able to stand upright on her own and has control over her legs to walk on the concrete. However, she tires easily and is unable to cover a large distance at this time. Again, she's got so much heart! And did I mention how sweet she is?

Emmy has a great disposition. She'll let you know when she wants to get into the action but usually she is quiet and is contented to be on something soft. Emmy is assertive. She doesn't like being separated from the pack. Emmy tells you she's unhappy (or probably anything else) by doing the double-bark: "arf-arf" (I think she's incapable of a single bark). And, she really throws her back into it, so you know she's serious. But place her into the thick of things and she's back to her sweet-as-pie self.

The word is that Emmy is deaf, but her hearing may be 'selective' (which is not an uncommon trait). It seems that she hears other dogs and responds to certain voices. Emmy needs someone who has the time and the patience to care for her by giving mountains of love, a little massage, and assisting her in going outside to do her business. Emmy needs someone who is loving and compassionate enough to forgive her for her "little accidents". It's easy to forgive because when she turns and looks into your eyes all you want to do is hold her. Oh yes, and she is so sweet.
