This song was written in 1982. I was dating an actress at the time whose friend had suddenly lost his wife. It was a very sad situation. The guy's wife was feeling ill and he and his wife decided to stay at her mom's house that evening for TLC. She died there. The young man was left with two kids to care for.

It broke my heart when she told me the story. I still cry thinking about it.

I wrote the song on a borrowed Fender Rhodes piano.
