Emmy

Emmy was written in 2002. My wife and I sometimes assist in rescuing Pugs. Emmy is a paraplegic pug that we fostered for about four months. She required a lot of work and, frankly, many people would wonder why she wasn't put down. But, "if I have to explain you wouldn't understand."

Every night and, often, early in the moring before the sun came up, I'd carry Emmy outside to do her business. I'd always carry here like a baby, cradling her in my arms as she stared into my eyes. Outside I'd always sing, "Emmy, the moon and the stars are ours tonight" like a lullaby.

Finally, we found two amazing people that wanted to adopt her. This relief was mixed with a profound sadness. So, the day before she left I wrote out the ditty that I'd started. It was written on a Yamaha S80 keyboard. I wanted the song to stay simple, like a lullaby. Here's another song that has a life without a bridge.

Sadly, Emmy is gone.
